Serendipity is crucial in understanding the inspiration behind b Store’s print inspired a/w 2012 collection. Creative mind’s behind b Store’s menswear collection Matthew Murphy and Kirk Beattie found inspiration from the most obscure of places. Initially an image they found of an homeless man wearing his entire wardrobe made up of clothing he had found on the streets was key. His layered combination of prints inspired the juxtaposition of unlikely pairing of patterns seen throughout the collection from cheetah paired with pixelated paisley to mint new camou with animal print.
Apart from b Store’s ongoing Liberty collaboration this season is the first collection to really focus on the experimentation of surface design. Especially as all prints and fabrics within the collection were exclusively designed by the b Store design team. Taking inspiration from prints found in odd places from the ‘cain’ print found on an unwanted french bistro chair on the streets to the ‘scando’ print inspired by classic 70’s scandinavian vintage knitwear found in an thrift store.
key styles this season include a double faced, unstructured, oversized wool coat and marl flecked jumper and melton wool loose fit trousers. Signature b Store silhouettes come in heritage fabrics from a cropped brentwood blazer in Prince of Wales wool, oversize tee shapes and tailored shirting. whilst silhouettes were a mix of juxtaposing shapes, teaming loose wide fit trousers with cropped shaped shirts and blazers.
